Important Road Closure Info for Kitty Hawk
Posted by Brindley Beach Vacations and Sales | Friday, July 10, 2015

This is some important information for almost everyone coming to the Outer Banks for the next month.

The Beach Road, NC 12, will be closed between Lillian Street and White Avenue in Kitty Hawk for the next month.

This will impact traffic heading to Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head and points south. For the time being, the Beach Road in Kitty Hawk should not be considered an alternative route to US 158, the Bypass.

The closure will allow NCDOT to permanently shore up the dune line and repair the road that was damaged by the late season nor’easter that damaged the road in early May.

Lillian Street is the first cross street north of the Black Pelican and is a beach access parking area. White Avenue is the street immediately south of John’s Drive-in. NCDOT has issued a number of statements indicating access to businesses will be maintained and that renters and residents in the effected areas will be able to get to their homes.

At this point the the Beach Road from the Black Pelican north is restricted; travel to the area south to White Avenue is not yet restricted.

According to NCDOT, the road closures and restrictions will last about a month. For more information go to https://apps.ncdot.gov/NewsReleases/details.aspx?r=11377.
