Outer Banks New Year’s Resolutions
Posted by Brindley Beach Vacations and Sales | Friday, December 28, 2012

The new year is just about here and like just about everyone else, we here at Brindley Beach Vacations are thinking about the dreaded New Year’s resolutions--because, let’s face it, we’re no better than anyone else at keeping them. Oh, sure the odd one or two sneaks through and we manage to keep it for a whole year, but the vast majority of our resolutions fall to the onslaught of temptation that surrounds us.
“I’m going to have a healthier diet this year . . .” is a great resolution until someone shows up with a plate of your favorite cookies. Or, “I’m going to go to church more often . . .” A fine resolution for the state of your soul, although it does tend to conflict with Sunday as the only day you get to sleep in (or Saturday if you’re Jewish).
Therefore, we here at Brindley Beach Vacations have come up with a resolution of our own. We resolve to only offer resolutions that people can keep.
Here’s our list:
  1. Hug your children multiple times every day. Admittedly, if you have teenage children, they may find this a bit weird, but they’ll get over it, and although they would never admit it, it’s important to them.
  2. Love your family and respect their differences. Of course both their facts and opinions are wrong. So what? They’re equally as convinced that your facts and opinions are wrong. Respect their right to be wrong and love them anyway.
  3. Plan family vacations--especially to the Outer Banks. That’s what we specialize in. Not necessarily the planning part, although we can help you with that. All journeys begin with the first step and the first step in this case may be as simple as going on line or placing a phone call and discovering what an amazing place the Outer Banks is for families.
  4. Plan weekend getaways with family or someone special. The Outer Banks is a great place for a one or two week vacation (or even more). But it is just as good for a long weekend or a two day getaway.
  5. Be spontaneous. Some of the greatest things in life happen when we least expect them. For our neighbors living within a day’s ride of the Outer Banks, a suggestion could be, lunch in Duck, a stroll through some art galleries and home again.
  6. Create memorable moments. This is a little more difficult and it might be better to say, “Be open to memorable moments.” Life can get pretty tough and hectic at times, but having a stockpile of cherished moments, seems to bring light to even the darkest night.
  7. Spend time on yourself. It may sound selfish, but as part of an overall balance to life, it is important. If you don’t feel good about yourself, how can you expect others to feel good about you?
That’s seven New Year’s resolutions. All of them certainly achievable. We are, of course, open to other resolutions, and we would love to hear what you have in mind--especially if the resolutions are something that can be accomplished over the course of the year.
