Things To Do With Kid When It’s Raining
Posted by Brindley Beach Vacations and Sales | Sunday, July 10, 2016

Sailing a ship at the Roanoke Adventure Museum, Roanoke Island Festival Park.

The weather on the Outer Banks has been very cooperative this summer with the rains holding off for the most part until evening. However, on the odd chance that it will rain at some point during the day between now and Labor Day, we have compiled a short list of Brindley Beach Vacations “Things To Do With Kid When It’s Raining.”

 Roanoke Island Festival Park

Roanoke Island Festival Park in Manteo is a great resource for things to do with kids at any time, but if it’s raining at the end of the week it could be lifesaver.

Children’s theatre is presented every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday through the first week of August. Shows are at 10:30 a.m. and include classic productions such as Charlotte’s Web and the Velveteen Rabbit.

If it’s still raining after the show, check out the Roanoke Adventure Museum, an indoor museum with some really neat interactive displays that bring the history of the Lost Colony to life. If it has stopped raining, check out the the Indian Village, Settlement Site and Elizabeth II. Especially the Elizabeth II, a replica ship of the Elizabeth that brought the original colonists to Roanoke Island in 1587.

Kitty Hawk Kites/Kitty Hawk Surf Company-Jockey’s Ridge

We’re putting these two together because they’re in the same complex.

Kitty Hawk Kites has a climbing wall and Kitty Hawk Surf Company has the Shark—sort of like a mechanical bull only not nearly as wild. Kids love doing both activities and they make for some great photo ops.

Kitty Hawk Kites has a huge selection of kites and full toy store which will keep the younger set occupied for at least a half hour.

There are age and size restrictions to ride Stanley the Shark.

Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education

Located adjacent to the Whalehead Club in Corolla, the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education houses a small but well thought out museum and one of the largest decoy collections in the world. They also offer some very interesting indoor classes geared toward the kids, as well as some great outdoor classes and designed for all ages.
