First Friday in Manteo, looking toward the entrance to he historic Dare County Courthouse, home to the Dare County Arts Council.

Days like today are a point in time to treasure. As close to a perfect spring day as there could be.

With the weather turning better outdoor activities are ramping up again on the Outer Banks and this evening it was First Friday in Manteo—one of the best ways imaginable to spend an hour and a half or two hours on a Friday evening.

It’s a once a month event—falling on the first Friday of the month running from April through October. The sidewalk cafes and galleries are all open; at the historic Dare County Courthouse, home to the Dare County Arts Council,  there’s live music on the stairs leading to the main entrance; the featured artist for the month at the DCAC Gallery was Gina Owens, a local artist whose colorful and whimsical depictions of marine life and animals seemed perfect for the day.

It’s not only downtown Manteo that is coming alive as the weather improves—the weekend is filled with Easter Egg hunts, kite flying and outdoor activities.

It’s a great time to be on the Outer Banks. . . businesses are open, the weather is wonderful and there’s just enough visitors to make things exciting but there’s still no wait the lunch counter for a seat.
