It’s that time of the year again…time of the Annual Outer Banks Taste of the Beach.

The Taste of the Beach is one of our favorite events. Unlike any other Taste of … event we’ve been to, on the Outer Banks we don’t just create an amazing culinary experience, we through in a good measure of life on a sandbar as well.

From Corolla to Manteo, there is something happening everywhere from Thursday through Sunday with wine and food pairings, beer tastings and even some events pairing olive oil and food.

What really sets the Outer Banks TOB apart, though, is it gives visitors a great reason to tour the Outer Banks.

Want to check out Corolla? Check into Metropolis and sample their Tapas Mingler on Friday night or the Martini Meltdown on Saturday.

Curious about how Beer Saved Civilization? Learn all about it at the Lost Colony Brewery & Cafe in Manteo on Friday and Saturday afternoon.

Some of the most fun events are the cook-offs and there are two of them. On Friday it’s the Outer Banks BBQ & Wings Showdown at the Pointe Golf Club in Powells Point on the Mainland—about three miles north of the Wright Brothers Bridge. That’s a new location for this event which had been at the Nags Head Event Site for the past few years.

The original TOB cook-off is the 10th Annual Chowder Cook-off at Southern Shores Crossing in Southern Shores. The weather forecast for this one, that is an outdoor event, looks like it will be a bit chilly but the rain is forecast to hold off until evening. Good—usually excellent—and hearty soup, lots of people and the weather won’t matter all that much.
