Corolla beach, Friday afternoon, Columbus Day Weekend.

It’s Columbus Day weekend and here on the Outer Banks it sure doesn’t seem like it is. Feels more like summer, actually.

Our roads are filled with visitors, the beaches are almost as busy as the get during the summer and cars fill the driveways of just about every home. And the weather? Not quite as warm as the summer, but very, very pleasant. And the forecast calls for more mild temperatures next week.

It’s not quite like Columbus Day in the past. There’s no Mustang Rock and Roast this year or Duck Jazz Festival. We’re pretty sure both will be back next year.

But there are some great events happening.

We’ve had a great time checking out the cars in the OBX Rod and Custom Festival this week. Unfortunately it ends on Saturday.

There is, though, a lot of live music playing.

Steve Hauser, who has a great voice and endless repertoire of classic rock songs, will be at Hurricane Mo’s inKitty Hawk.on Saturday. BC is at Aqua in the village of Duck. And Scott Franson will be at Jack Brown’s in KDH. It’s an outdoor venue. Really nice.

Sunday is looking like a washout right now, but after that, the week is looking pretty good.

We know a lot of our visitors are just here for the long weekend, but more and more people are choosing to spend a week or two with us during this time when offices are closed and so many people are working remotely. As one person remarked, if the choice is working remotely from a city or at the Outer Banks, the choice seems self-evident.

The same idea seems to be holding true for school, with so many schools opting to allow students to work remotely. It would be nice to get the kids back in school, but it may be a while until everyone feels comfortable with that.

We’re having a great time here on the Outer Banks. Join us and stay a while with Brindley Beach Vacations.
