Early spring bud along Kitty Hawk Bay.

What’s the saying? “You can’t fool Mother Nature.” And even though it’s been cold and miserable all up and down the Eastern Seaboard, spring is on its way. Yesterday was the first harbinger of springtime weather and today is absolutely spectacular.

The earlier budding trees are already showing sprouts of green, some of the earlier flowers are starting to push through the soil and those dreary days of winter are fading from memory.

Spring is not officially here for almost two weeks—Friday March 20, but there is every reason to begin the celebrations early . . .  not that the weather will remain this beautiful for two weeks, but sure feels good to get back out in the sunshine again.

Spring falls right in the middle of the Outer Banks Taste of the Beach. We’ve done pretty well with the weather for the event over the past few years, and with so many of the events outdoors, we’ll hope for the best again.

Two of the outdoor events that seem to be the most fun are the Chowder Cookoff on Saturday at Southern Shores Crossing in Southern Shores, that we’ve already mentioned and the BBQ & Wings Showdown at the Sea Ranch Resort in Kill Devil Hills.
