The Outer Banks is all about families, which means it has to be all about children. That families consistently rate this strip of land as one of the best vacation destinations anywhere is no accident—part of the allure to the area is how much there is for kids to do.

We can’t possibly list everything for kids, but one thing is for sure—there is a lot of theatre geared for kids.

Two of the best are on Roanoke Island.

The Lost Colony performs Stella Luna and Other Tales every Tuesday and Wednesday through August 17. Performed as musicals and based on the children’s books of Janell Cannon, the stories follow young animals learning about life and how important it is to be at once different yet true to yourself.

The actors are the same actors who perform on the Lost Colony Stage, so the production values are outstanding.

In Manteo, Roanoke Island Festival Park will be featuring the Rainbow Puppets Children’s Show performing Really Big Dinosaur Show on August 3, 4, 5 at the Indoor Theatre.

The show would be a lot of fun for kids, especially younger ones. There’s a long-necked dinosaur that stretches out over 16 feet from nose to tail, and a nine foot tall T-Rex.

And the dinosaurs and their friends come out to greet the audience, so kids will get to meet them close up.
