The Corolla Wild Horses–one of the many reasons to give thanks on the Outer Banks.

In the clamor of every day life we often forget to recall all those things we have to be thankful for. Perhaps that’s what makes Thanksgiving such a special holiday—a moment, or a day to reflect on all the things we have to be thankful for.

Family always seems to come first on that list, and it should. Sometimes, of course, our siblings, parents or children can drive us crazy, but they are also the people who know us best and still love us.

After that, though, the list becomes a bit more murky. For those of us lucky enough to live on the Outer Banks, that is certainly something to recognize and be grateful that we do. This is one of the most extraordinarily beautiful places to live and surrounded by the forces of nature that have formed this strip of sand is to feel awe and gratitude in equal measure.

What really makes the Outer Banks so wonderful, though, is the sense of community that exists here. Our visitors experience a small sampling of that when they stop by for a week or two, but living to live here is to know this is a place where neighbors and community truly do help one another.

The list can go on for quite some time, and it will change from person to person—and as we have observed, it tends to change based on the age of who is expressing their thanks. At ten we tend to be thankful for the star player on our favorite team; as parents we generally take a more measured view.

But that’s what makes the holiday so special. It is a time to come together with family and think about the blessings we enjoy.

From the Brindley Beach Vacations family to yours, may your Thanksgiving be filled with family and happiness.
