The Outer Banks Taste of the Beach is almost upon us and the food world is licking their chops and rubbing their hands together in anticipation.
The date for the 2019 festivities have been shifted just a bit from tradition. In the past, the Taste of the Beach happened in the middle of March. This year the four day event has been moved to the end of the month, Thursday-Sunday, March 28-31.
Almost every city in the country has a Taste of, but no one does like the Outer Banks. As much a tour of the northern Outer Banks as it is a celebration of outstanding food preparation and events, this is an event not to be missed.
The two absolutely-do-not-miss-these-events are the Annual BBQ & Wings Showdown on Saturday from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Soundside Event Site in Nags Head. The other event is the Chefs Grand Tasting & Bartenders Bubbly Bash, Sunday from 12:00 p.m – 3:00 p.m. That’s also at the Nags Head Event Site.
Some Different Events
But with all those amazing events to check out, we thought we would call out a few events that might fly under the radar, but look so different and fun.
Thursday through Sunday a the Dare County Arts Council in Manteo, “The Art of the Recipe: a salty foodART” exhibition looks fascinating. Here’s the description, which seems easiest:
“Local artwork inspired by a curated collection of printed local recipes tat were created by cooks and chefs of the Outer Banks. Artists will offer their interpretation of a specific recipe in Pottery, Glass, Textiles, Photographs, Paintings, Metal, Wood, New Media and more!”
No fee for this one. There will be hors d’oeuvre served. See below for times.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday, learn a bit of history of the Outer Banks and some great food too at “Black Pelican’s Sips N Bits and a little bit of History Event!!!” The Black Pelican building was built in 1873 as a US Lifesaving Station.
Events are selling out quickly so be sure to make those reservations as soon as possible.
