The summer has unofficially begun now that Memorial Day is here, and the signs here on the Outer Banks are looking like it may be one of the best or maybe the best we’ve ever had.

The weather has been absolutely spectacular and it looks like it’s going to hold for a while, which always makes everyone optimistic. But just looking at visitation and how many people are here, how many out of state license plates are filling Outer Banks roads, there has to be a sense of optimism.

The entertainment calendar is filling up and there are some great events coming up over the next week or so.

Tomorrow its the Shallowbag Bay Shag -Beach Music Festival at Roanoke Island Festival Park in Manteo. The weather is looking like its going to be perfect for this. The setting is as beautiful as it gets and with classic shag and beach music filling the air, it should be a great day.

The big upcoming event is next Sunday when the Outer Banks Event Site in Nags Head finally opens with OBX Brewfest. Live music with  TAUK, People’s Blues of Richmond and The Mark Schimick String Band and beer, beer and more beer. This is a 21 and older events, so don’t bring the kids.

It’s also a benefit for the Dare County Arts Council, so it looks like everyone is a winner—great music, great beer and a good cause.
