Held annually on the Manteo waterfront, the New World Festival of the Arts features artists from all over the East Coast.
The sun has finally come out to stay here on the Outer Banks. After almost two weeks of rain—some of it very hard—with little splashes of sunlight here and there it’s a relief to have the sun over our shoulder again. And, if the forecast is accurate, it will be that way for a while.
Now that we’re in August, it’s time to start looking forward to some the events that will be coming up after the summer season has ended.
Fall on the Outer Banks is absolutely spectacular, and with that great weather comes some fantastic events.
We are going to mention one upcoming August event, though.
The New World Festival of the Arts in downtown Manteo will be held Wednesday and Thursday August 15 and 16. Sponsored by the Dare County Arts Council (DCAC), the festival brings around 75 exhibitors from all over the East Coast as well as some of the best Outer Banks artists to the Manteo waterfront. It’s a great show and worth a visit.
September brings the first of the autumn waves to the Outer Banks shores and there are two surf competitions to take advantage of that.
The WRV Outer Banks Pro Surf Contest is August 31 to September 3 at Jennette’s Pier.
Also at Jennette’s Pier the ESA Easterns Surfing Championships will be held 16 – 22. The Easterns are an amateur competition and a wonderful family affair as much as a surf competition. Competitions from age 8 to 80 are one the water.
Making a return appearance, the Outer Banks Food Truck Showdown returns on September 9 to the Nags Head Event Site. The first one was at the beginning of the summer and it was fun with a lot of great food.
Sponsored by the DCAC, Surfalorous is a wonderful surf film festival. Look for that at the DCAC Gallery in downtown Manteo. Definitely check out Outer, a film by Manteo high school senior Logan Marshall that is in the lineup.
Finally The Lost Colony Wine & Culinary Festival is back again this year on September 29. The inaugural event was a blast and we’re sure this year’s event will be just as good.
