Every once in a while something comes up that we think is a little bit different but certainly worth checking out and Andrew Lawler talking about his new book The Secret Token: Myth, Obsession, and the Search for the Lost Colony of Roanoke falls into that category.
Lawler will be on hand two times this coming week—at Downtown Books in Manteo on Friday July 6 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday July 8 at 4:330 p.m. at the Dare County Arts Council Gallery in Manteo.
Lawler is very well-respected journalist who has written on a number of topics from politics to current events to history. He has written for the National Geographic, the Smithsonian and New York Times among other publications.
He has already written a best seller—Why Did the Chicken Cross the World?—a book that takes a look at how important the chicken has been to civilizations.
In The Secret Token he seems to be searching more for what the possible answer could be, debunking quite a few beliefs along the way. The book reads very well, almost like a detective novel as much as a search for the facts or truth behind a myth.
The Friday meet and greet at Downtown Books coincides with Manteo’s First Friday—which is a great reason to be there anyway.
