Surf Shack is the beach getaway you’ve been looking for! This uniquely decorated home is conveniently located in the heart of Avon, less than half a mile to beach access, yet convenient to the Avon pier, shopping, and dining —this sound side vacation home is perfect for the entire family. Surf Shack is dog friendly (2 dogs max)!

Ground Level: Ground Level Amenities include an outdoor shower, hammock, spacious yard, and a driveway that accommodates 3 vehicles.

Mid Level: As you enter the home from the covered front porch, you are greeted by the bright and fun décor throughout the secondary living area. The living area boasts ample seating, cable TV, a dining table with seating for 6, and a fully stocked kitchenette with a dishwasher, wine cooler, microwave & full refrigerator. Bedroom #1 is furnished with two Twin beds. Bedroom #2 is furnished with a Queen bed. Bedroom #3 is furnished with a Queen bed and a Full sized futon and a private full bathroom with a clawfoot tub and standup shower. There is also a washer and dryer located at the staircase landing for your convenience.

Top Level: As you make your way to the top floor you will find the primary living space with a kitchen, living, and dining area. The living area is furnished with comfortable seating, plenty of games, and a TV with cable. The family can gather and enjoy a meal at the large dining table with seating for 8. The well-stocked kitchen is equipped with stainless steel appliances, two islands, and plenty of counter space to prepare your favorite meal with ease. You will find Bedroom #4 is furnished with a Queen bed and shares access to a modern semi-private full bathroom located off the hallway. Expansive decks with comfortable seating are located off the living area… perfect to soak up the sun or sip your morning coffee.

Extras: 3 TVs, WiFi, sun decks, covered decks, deck furniture, wine fridge, gas grill, 2 living areas, games, outside shower, hammock, drip coffee maker, and linens and towels provided. No Smoking. Dog Friendly. Distance to beach access: Over 1,000 feet. Beds: 2 Queens, 1 Full, 2 Twins, 1 Queen Sleeper Sofa. Key Type: Keyless Entry. Check In Location: At property.

Linens and towels provided at no additional cost. This home will provide sheets for all beds and the beds will be made with the exception of sleep sofas, top bunks and trundle beds in which case the sheets are provided. This home also provides 1 bath towel and 1 wash cloth per person the house sleeps, 2 hand towels per full bathroom, 1 hand towel per half bathroom and a bath mat for each shower or tub.

Booking: During the booking process you will be asked to enter a credit card number, nothing will be charged to this card. You will receive an email 24 hours after booking with instructions to log on to guest web to electronically sign your lease agreement and make your advance payment. You will have 10 days to sign your lease agreement and pay your advance payment to avoid cancellation. We offer optional travel insurance that you can opt in or out of on your lease agreement. Your final payment will be due 30 days prior to arrival. Reservations booked within 45 days of arrival will have 72 hours to sign the lease agreement and submit payment in full.

Nice & clean house easy and short walk to the beach. Only downside was mosquitoes at the house. Suggestions would be list the beach items that the house has underneath. Also owners could put another barn door slider upstairs, that way the upstairs bedroom could have a little more privacy and could be a second master

We had 7 people stay for this vacation. The house was nice and clean, and we were blown away by how nicely stocked the kitchen was with dishes, utensils and cookware!! If you choose the surf shack for your vacation home, all you will need to pack for the kitchen is spices, plastic wrap, foil and maybe some cooking spray (all if you opt to cook at home) and then of course your grocery items. The only thing I would like to see improved on is the grill. It is definitely older and didn’t work all that great. Other than that, this place is in a great location, is spacious, and we absolutely loved it!!!!!! The decor is bright and cheerful AND we were able to bring our fur baby! She loved it too! ☺️

While the 'Surf Shack' may be missing the waterfront views, it more than makes up for it in charm and amenities. So many beachfront homes are sterile and outdated...the home is modern, beautifully appointed (with just enough quirkiness) and boasts the most well-stocked kitchen I’ve ever had in an Airbnb. The walk to the beach is quick and easy, and the owner has you covered if you happen to forget a pair of flip-flops or sunglasses! Note that you should bring along laundry detergent, Tupperware, plastic wrap/foil, sandwich bags, extra paper goods, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. This stuff is pilfered by guests beyond belief, and it’s not surprising that the owner doesn’t keep an endless supply of everything. She’s definitely got the basics covered though. The 'Surf Shack' is an amazing value for the money. It’s comfortable, close to everything and clearly has a homeowner who cares about the overall guest experience. I will definitely be back!

This place is the perfect OBX getaway. Awesome location, just a couple minutes walk from the beach. The house is a great size, having the upstairs and downstairs living areas gives so much room! The decorations made you feel like it was your own family owned house, not just a rental. Will absolutely stay again!

Great location, plenty of kitchen items and close to restaurants and grocery store. Hammock under house with the breeze is a great nap spot! We liked Diamond Shoals for breakfast and they had good dinner options as well. Cockeyed Clam was a little slow, but the food was great. There is a scone and coffee place right down the street from the house that had great coffee and good options for breakfast as well called Muffins and Scones. We always drove to the beach so I'm not sure how far the walk is.

We had a group of 6 stay here for a weekend so we could go fishing offshore out of Hatteras. The house was in a great spot in Avon. Upon arrival, the outside of the house was even nicer in person and we already knew it was going to be a great stay. The house was clean, updated, very beachy, comfortable, and perfect for us to enjoy over the weekend. The layout of the home was awesome and the bedrooms were each set up clean and ready to go, as if you were staying in a 5 star hotel. We really enjoyed the big space on the upper level with a wonderful kitchen and open floor plan flowing to the living room, a huge kitchen table, and double doors that opened to the upper level deck, which we spent most of our time enjoying. The lower level had another small kitchen setup, as well as another nice living room area with more comfy seating and a lower level deck to enjoy. We could not be more pleased with our stay and we can’t wait to be back!

If you’ve ever seen “Friends”, this house is pretty much what the safe haven for Monica, Rachel, and Phoebe would look like if they decided to leave their husbands. Needless to say, this was perfect for our girls weekend getaway. All the details of the house design and flow come together perfectly, and the longer you’re there, the more details you notice and appreciate. The intimate, more private spaces for sleeping are perfectly balanced out by the communal, open areas for entertainment and engagement with family and friends. They have baskets of towels, sunglasses, and even flip flops out if your happen to forget yours. They are very quick to respond to questions and concerns before and during your visit. Everything is neat, organized, and accessible. There are even two fridges and a wine fridge for additional storage for those worried about not having enough storage for food and drinks you bring for a big week, or a small weekend. This will be my go to house to stay at in the future as my parents don’t even allow my dog in their beach house (even though he’s the best boy). Can’t wait to come back!

Love the 'Surf Shack'! The upstairs is wonderful! Newly remodeled, large, open area. Downstairs with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. Two rooms were somewhat small spaces, with a very small bathroom. In my opinion, these would be best suited for kids! Overall, great experience! Great hosts! Responsive, and helpful throughout the planning and during our stay! Great location! We will stay there again!

This place is an amazing value for the price. The walk to the beach was not too bad. There is a shortcut through the back yard that cuts time off the walk. There is public access across the beach right across 12. We had a great time and there is tons of space. The whole place was adorable and updated with great amenities. If you can book it, book it now!

The house is in a great location! Having the two different floors is perfect for two adult couples! We took our dogs and they had a great time! The only downfall was the lack of cleaning supplies in the house. No broom, no hand soap, no Clorox, wipes for counter, etc. We are very tidy and assumed the home would have the basics. Overall, the kitchen was fully stocked with gadgets and utensils, extra beach towels, and the house was tactfully decorated!

Spacious, beautifully decorated with an upscale local flair. Very comfortable for our group of 4, and would have been just as comfortable for the 7 we had originally booked the space to accommodate. There are 3 bedrooms (bedroom with 2 twins as well as full and a queen bedroom) and 2 bathrooms, sitting room, table and partial kitchen on the middle floor with a queen bedroom, bath, full kitchen with all the equipment to cook anything you have in mind, as well as a large dining table and sitting room on the upper level with decks on both levels. There is a swing, dining table and hammock under the house. Convenient outdoor shower, as well as a hose at the door to wash off any sand. I can’t think of anything that I would have changed at the house. It was perfect. We didn’t go to the local beach, so I can’t say how long the walk would be, but probably a bit further that I would want to carry all our beach stuff without a cart. Not to worry, beaches abound that we could drive and park near, or drive on and park next to the water with a 4x4. OBX is a special place and so is 'Surf Shack' and the wonderful hosts.

We loved our stay at Surf Shack! What a wonderful value, and so much love and care is put into the home. The layout worked beautifully for us, as we had 4 teen boys with us. If you have kids, they will love having their own space downstairs that includes a full sized fridge, sink, microwave, and adorable details everywhere. This is not your typical boring rental! Having 3 bathrooms plus the big outdoor shower was fantastic. We really loved the upgraded ceiling fans as well! It was very comfortable and great to cook, relax, and enjoy our time at the beach. The walk to the beach was as we expected (not super easy, but fine), and the cut through behind the house really helps. Lots of things only a bike ride away in a quiet part of town. The owner worked with us and was very accessible and helpful, recommending restaurants and helping with advice when the island evacuated. We look forward to recommending 'Surf Shack' to family and friends!

This place exceeded our expectations. It was EXTREMELY clean and had a sweet beachy vibe that still felt tasteful. The walk to the beach was not far with the cut through in the backyard. We have a 1 year old and it was no problem. I wouldn’t let that deter you from choosing this place if you’re on the fence about location. It was about 8 minutes. Also Dairy Queen ice cream was super close and we rode the bikes there. Definitely great for families or groups of people. I loved that there were 3 bathrooms and plenty of privacy. Book this place, you won’t be disappointed. We plan to return for future family trips.

Our family loved our stay here and hated that we had to leave. It is minutes from the beach (we walked to the public access that is just across 12), so we could spend time there but come home for lunch or a rest. There was a lot of space, and somehow everyone found a favorite nap or rest spot for those lazy afternoons and evenings. Kitchen very well equipped - crockpots, blenders, all of it. Kids could keep snacks and drinks in the downstairs fridge for easier access. We could see visiting again with grandparents or friends with the way the space is set up. Happy to find such a nice place our dog could enjoy too.

We stayed at the 'Surf Shack' the week of Thanksgiving and were so happy with our choice. The check in and directions getting to the house were easy to follow, and the communication was prompt and helpful. For us, the location in Avon was perfect with easy access to the uncrowded beaches of Hatteras Island and also easy access to Ocracoke. We love the vibe of Hatteras Island and the surrounding area. The house had more than we expected in terms of amenities - especially the kitchen with everything we need to cook a Thanksgiving feast! There were thoughtful touches - like beach towels, extra blankets, plus also lots of seating and extensive decks. The space was clean and we couldn't recommend it enough. We definitely look forward to our next stay at the 'Surf Shack'!

Just visited in early February (the off season), very quiet location but close to a grocery store and good restaurants. Most importantly an awesome break breakfast/coffee spot (muffins and scones). The 'Surf Shack' was exceptionally clean with wrapped sheets and towels for our stay. The house is decorated perfectly for the island with lighthouses everywhere. My daughter loved that we had visited!

Lots of room to spread out in this home for one family, or very accessible for two families with kitchens and living spaces on each floor. Beach is a short walk and neighborhood is kid and dog friendly. This is an older home that has been updated and fixed up nicely. Each room has a separate heating unit if you visit during cold weather. Kitchen has the basic essentials, but bring your own storage and wraps if you plan to cook. Overall, a nice place to stay for a family getaway with restaurants and grocery nearby and just a short drive to fishing at Cape Hatteras.

This place is a gem! You will absolutely love all the little touches that make it so homey! There are beach towels, beach chairs, Rummikub (a family favorite), TONS of plates, mugs and kitchen gadgets, oodles of pots and pans. Dishwasher, stove and oven, microwaves upstairs and down, washer and dryer. The colors of everything in the house will just make you smile. Beds were very comfy! Great common areas to hang out in groups, inside and out. We kind of wished there were more than just the four of us. It would be a great place for a small family reunion or friend get away. You will likely have to drive anywhere you are hoping to go unless its just Dairy Queen, but nothing is too far. Also recommend nearby Sandcastles Art Gallery.

This cottage was one of the best we've ever stayed in. It is obvious that the owner puts tremendous thought into not only decorating the home, but making it so comfortable for guests. This cottage has so many extra touches and provides things you may not even realize you need, but are glad to find: extra sunglasses, beach chairs, extra flip flops, towels, beach bags if needed. The list goes on... The cottage is a wonderful mix of open space upstairs for sharing meals, but also has a more private downstairs with a second kitchen space. She was also very thoughtful in considering early check-in for us, which is always nice!

We stayed here with 2 adults, 2 teenagers and 2 little children. We had everything we needed in the kitchen, and in the rest of the house. The grill on the upstairs deck was perfect at the end of the day. The teenagers liked the proximity to the Dairy Queen, and I enjoyed the walk to the sound to watch the sunset. The neighborhood is very quiet and people are friendly. The beach wasn't too far away. The house was close to everything we needed. I can only recommend this house when you are looking for a relaxing vacation.

This house is AMAZING! SO much space! The upstairs living room is open, airy and great for multiple couples/families. This house has EVERYTHING! The decor in every room is so fun! Very beachy with local flair. So many fun unexpected touches. It’s the perfect beach house for a summer getaway! A walk or drive to the beach, grocery store and delicious seafood spots. You will make great memories in this home! The hammock under the house was a spot on touch. We will be returning hopefully soon.

Managed to snag some relatively last minute, cheap availability here given the location/summer season and can't believe we did! Everything was above and beyond our expectations - ocean access closer than we thought (back yard cut through), house newer, cleaner, and bigger inside than I could tell from photos. Great kitchen and supplies, lots of thoughtful extras like shampoo, beach chairs, board games etc., huge living spaces with many chairs and a long dining table, great deck, outdoor shower, very clear, friendly and prompt communication before, during, and after. 10/10 still not sure how we managed to get this lucky but worked out great for family weekend getaway!

The 'Surf Shack' was the cutest, most colorful, fun beach house to escape to. My teenagers loved the first floor all to themselves and the house was so clean. The owners were so kind, helpful and considerate of our requests. I would definitely stay again and spread the word of their beach house. Wish we could of stayed longer. The kids didn’t want to leave. It was so nice to be able to bring our Labradoodle who is getting old, and we don’t like to leave him behind much now. She was so thoughtful when I double checked to see if it was still ok to bring him. All in all, great place to stay and wonderful owners!

'Surf Shack' is an amazing vacation house! There is so much room, so many places to sleep, shower, read, relax, and be together or a little apart. The kitchens (yes there are two!) are well supplied with everything. The upstairs space is particularly nice for family meals. It's very sunny and roomy. There is a beach just a short ways away and a grocery store down the road. My only complaint is that our stay was way too short! There are plenty to see and do and enjoy around the 'Surf Shack'!

Super clean, spacious and airy, close to the beach, full of amenities, right-priced...This home checked all the boxes for us (and we visit OBX often)! Avon beaches are great and are very sparsely crowded even in July (prime season). Though the beach is <10 min walk from the home, if you have younger kids and hate walking, one can drive to Avon pier and park right next to the beach. Nice seafood places close by to bring fresh food and cook at home. Since we were visiting at these uncertain times, we communicated often with the owners and they went above and beyond with clean up and some new stuff to ensure that we are fully satisfied and stayed safe!! All in all, a great home with great hosts. Perfect home for a family for summer beach vacation!

You’ll find everything you need here from this great host for an amazing time in Avon! Easiest review I’ll ever write. Great house, so many areas to just sit back and relax for when you’re not out exploring the beach...feels like home. You won’t regret staying here, and you can even see the “inlet” side of the ocean from the top deck. Very clean, and the washer and dryer were an added bonus along with 2 refrigerators. Thank you!!

Super Funky and Cute!

This house is super funky and cute. It has an unusual layout, but one that works well to allow groups to hang out together with plenty of space. It was great to have three bathrooms and access in and out of the house from both levels. The kitchen and bathrooms were all clean. We cooked a few meals and found all the basic cookware needed. You should bring your own spices and chefs will prefer their own knives. We loved walking to Muffins and Scones every morning for coffee and breakfast. Our stay was in the winter, so not much to say about beach amenities, but we did notice a basket of flip flops on the front porch and beach towels available in a basket on the lower floor. It was a short 7 minute walk to the beach. In the off season, we enjoyed visiting the state parks, lunching in Kitty Hawk, and especially the hang gliding lesson at Jockey's Ridge on the sand dunes (1 hr. away). We had scheduled a visit to the winter lights and fireworks on New Year's eve, but both events were cancelled due to rain. There is a hammock under the house and plenty of chairs on the decks.

We loved every minute of our stay. The 'Surf Shack' has a welcoming feeling and we felt right at home. We were able to bring our puppy and enjoy lots of quality family time. A wonderful experience!

We enjoyed our stay immensely. The 'Surf Shack' was spotless. I am a nitpicker for details, but there was no nits to pick here. The attention to detail was impressive. The kitchen was well stocked, and I am a chef by trade and former restaurant owner. Shore Details was most accommodating when I asked for a special request. Can't wait until next year. Kudos to the owner and management!

The house was spotless when we arrived - took a minute to locate the lock box for the door key, but once located, we were good to go for the rest of the time. The girls had all the room they needed downstairs and the adults took over the upstairs - the couches are very comfortable (lazy day Saturday). Dairy Queen was a big plus being around the corner also!! Really enjoyed our stay and have already recommended this place to a couple of people!

Absolutely loved the house. It is so cute and it just gives a beach vibe. The location is great, not far at all from the beach. Great stores around the area, even cute jewelry stores! The host was great, and was there when needed. We enjoyed our stay and the OBX is absolutely beautiful. The beach was never really packed, so we really enjoyed ourselves! Definitely would come back and stay again!!

Great place to stay, nice walk to the beach, plenty of room for friends and family to chill around in and outside the house. The kids loved the hammock. Having a Dairy Queen down the street was also a nice perk.

3 Weeks at The Surf Shack

Overall, the layout of the house was fantastic for a large family of five. Plenty of space and amenities also for our pet. The walk to the beach was easy, we appreciated the easy walking directions they were spot on. A beach cart would be helpful but they are available to rent for a fee from local shops. The house was cleaned when we arrived and the Shore Details staff were always responsive to any inquiries. During Hurricane Ian we were forced to remain indoors (strong rain, wind and coastal flooding) for a few days but the house had board games, cards and TV entertainment to keep even the youngest occupied. The sunsets off of the two balconies were AMAZING!
