Old Enough to Know Better, performing on the steps of the Dare County Arts Council Gallery.

Every once in a while the weather gods smile in perfect timing with an event, and Saturday for the 42nd Annual Dare Days in Manteo the weather gods must have been smiling ear to ear.

It would be hard to imagine a more perfect day for an outdoor event that we had on Saturday. Brilliant sunshine, temperatures never really got above 89, and there was a nice breeze off Shallowbag Bay just in case it did start to get warm.

Of course the real story is Dare Days, an amazing way to welcome in the summer on the Outer Banks. There was a cooking competition, an unboat race…if it floats and it’s not a boat, it can be entered…and lots of live music.

The lineup for music was so massive there’s no way to list everything.

For music, The Ramble, a new group but really worth checking out; Jonny Waters has been around for a while but his driving country rock sound is great. Old Enought to Know Better does an amazing job with classic rock. EZ Malone was on hand as well. EZ can often be seen playing in front of various businesses in spring and summer. He’s a really nice guy and a very talented musician.

Of course all of that is personal taste.

There were also rides for kids; Kitty Hawk Kites brought their portable climbing wall. There was fresh squeezed lemonade, funnel cakes, hot dogs, hamburgers…it was a street fair and it was fun.

Speaking of fun, we’re looking forward to finally getting into our new Brindley Beach Vacations Corolla offices. Grand opening will be June 12. Mark the date on your calendars.
