Now that things have slowed down just a bit on the Outer Banks, there’s time—and people—to staff some events. If summer is the time of year when everything locally is go, go, go, fall festivals, events and happenings of all sorts.
There is so much happening that we can’t list everything, so we’re going with some highlights through the end of the month.
This week may give us the most amazing waves ever for the ESA Easterns Surfing Championships at Jennette’s Pier. An all week affair, this is one of the largest, if not the largest, amateur surf competition anywhere. A cautionary note, though—although the there is absolute agreement that Hurricane Jose will stay offshore, we’re going to get some waves, and they may be big enough that competition officials will become concerned about safety.
Surfing, though, is certainly the theme of the week with the Surfalorous Film Festival hosted by the Dare County Arts Council at the end of next week. Opening night is at Jennette’s Pier and if the past is any predictor of the future, this is an event to check out.
The last weekend of September is definitely a Lost Colony weekend with a Vintner’s Dinner at Duck Woods Country Club on Friday featuring fine cuisine paired with the wines of Virginia Dare Winery, a part of Francis Coppola Wines.
That’s followed the next day with a Lost Colony Wine Festival hosted by Trio. Held at The Lost Colony in Manteo, the setting will be spectacular and the wine should match it well.
