Flying Pirate Half Marathon, running east on Kitty Hawk Road, 7:45 a.m.

They ran the Flying Pirate half Marathon today—and a great day for a distance run it was. Temperature at the 7:00 a.m. start in Kitty Hawk was 50 degrees with a brisk following wind the whole way.

The winning time was 1.10.15 for the men’s division and 1.27.59 for the women. But what was really neat to see was how many Outer Banks locals showed up in the top ratings.

Third place finisher was Chad Motz from Nags head at 1:21:55.8. Eric Reece was out there. With Aubrey Davis he runs the Outer Banks Brewing Station.

Eric finished 17th at 1:32:07 which is pretty impressive—maybe even more impressive, though is that he was third in his age group.

The Flying Pirate Weekend kicks off what should be a really interesting week here on the Outer Banks—the weather is set to change to springlike just in time for Outer Banks Bike Week which is happening all this week.

No rain to speak of in the forecast and daytime temps should stay in the high 60s to low 70s.

The ocean has been unsurfable all weekend—strong NNE winds, 8-9’ seas and unpredictable chop. Tomorrow looks pretty tough too, but forecasts point to a break mid week.

Summer is coming up quickly. Here at Brindley Beach Vacations, we do have some availability but as summer gets closer our homes fill quickly.
