The Outer Banks Triathlon is this weekend, kicking off tomorrow, Saturday, September 17.
The folks at Outer Banks Sporting Events (OBSE) have done a fantastic job of creating an a weekend of events that is tailored to meet a wide variety of skill levels.
Saturday calls for Half Distance and Olympic Distance races.
The Olympic distance Triathlon is 1.5km swim, a 40km bike and 10km run. The Half is a half a full triathlon–or Iron Man–and is a grueling 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1mile run.
There is a Sprint Triathlon on Sunday that is half of the Olympic distance.
In conjunction with the Triathlon Weekend, OBSE is sponsoring an Outer Banks Cycle Race—two actually: 20 and 40 kilometers. The 20K is on Saturday and the 40K Sunday.
It should be a wonderful ride, crossing the old Manns Harbor Bridge along the route. The race course is a loop, so the start and finish will be in Manns Harbor.
The weather is looking good on Saturday for the triathlons and bike race. Sunday the forecast calls for a chance of morning showers, but the winds should be light and temperatures mild.
