We’ve written about Bike Week, wondered if the bikers would show up after a wet and windy weekend, and after a slow start, the 12th Annual Outer Banks Bike Week is finally in full swing.

And why not. You couldn’t ask for much nicer weather than we’re having right now. Not a cloud in the sky, light breeze–about as good as it gets to take a trip down to Hatteras or up to the Whalehead Club . . . which are two of the rides on the schedule.

Cole Slaw wrestling is back–which is perhaps a dubious distinction. Held this year at Kelly’s Outer Banks Tavern in Nags Head–although it is still hosted by Pigman’s Barbecue–it’s taking place tomorrow (Friday) from 1-4 p.m. It is a fundraiser for Get Pinked, the breast cancer awareness program of the Outer Banks Hospital, so the money is going to a good cause.

Of course Bike Week is not the only big event happening on the Outer Banks this week. The Spring Games for Dare County Special Olympics will be held at First Flight High School in Kill Devil Hills on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There are almost 60 athletes competing and the weather looks to be perfect for it.
