Riding the Shark at Kitty Hawk Surf Company.

We’re having a little bit of rain today and tomorrow here on the Outer Banks. Good timing because the clouds held off until Friday and Saturday so most of the week was very nice for our guests.

Still, into every life a little rain does fall, so just in case, here are some Brindley Beach Vacations suggestions for rainy day activities . . . with emphasis on the kids.

The Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education

Tucked away behind the Currituck Beach Lighthouse and Whalehead Club is one of the finest small museums anywhere. The Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education is a wonderful walk through the history of hunting on Currituck Sound complete with a huge decoy collection, diorama of hunting blinds and a huge aquarium stocked with local fish and wildlife.

Kitty Hawk Kites, Jockey’s Ridge Crossing

The original Kitty Hawk Kites store in Nags Head is part of a two story complex directly across from Jockey’s Ridge State Park. What really makes this standout, as a place to take kids is the rock climbing wall in the kites store and the shark ride in Kitty Hawk Surf Company on the south end for the complex.

Kitty Hawk Kites is a wonderful store to just wander around and check out the kites and toys. Oh . . . and Scoops Ice Cream is made on premises and it’s good.

Ok—this is for the adults. A rainy day is a shopping day. The perfect day to pick up souvenirs and those silly requested gifts for friends back home.
