Early morning, the summer heat has not yet set in, the humidity is still low and it’s the perfect time for to take a 5K run. That’s certainly what is happening more and more on the Outer Banks.
There have been some great running events every year for quite some time–this will be the 31st running of the Nags Head Woods 5K on May 10–but increasingly, races are being held throughout the year, especially in the summer.
Brindley Beach Vacations is certainly part of the mix, sponsoring the Lighthouse 5K Runs every Wednesday starting July 9th through August 20th. It’s a great run, by the way–no hills, lots of shade and the race course highlights the Whalehead Club and Currituck Beach Lighthouse. Registration also includes a breakfast.
There are other races as well. June through August there seems to be about two races per week, most of them 5Ks.
Of course the megarace that tops them all is the Outer Banks Marathon, held this year on November 9th.
For our visitors who are interested in participating in one–or more–of the runs, it’s a good idea to get registered as soon as possible. Check out the Runcations website for registration information about the Lighthouse 5K series.
