It’s hard to believe but Thanksgiving is a just one week away. It’s a great time on the Outer Banks…well anytime is a great time on the Outer Banks, but the holidays especially highlight the community spirit that is so much a part of local life.

That sense of community comes out in some wonderful traditions and events. Some of them perfect for the family, some for adults, some in the best tradition of the season and of them a little bit whacky but fun.

For adults, looking for something very different and lots of fun, check out the Outer Banks Brewing stations Tipsy Turkey 1 Mile Beer Run on the day before Thanksgiving. The object is to run a quarter mile, stop and drink a 12 oz. beer then on to the next quarter mile. It is a timed race, so trophies to the fastest man and woman.

Winter Lights at Elizabethan Gardens is a real favorite of ours—absolutely beautiful. And the Garden has been redoing everything this year so we should get a different look and feel.

To really get in the holiday spirit, on Sunday November 26 check out the performance of Handel’s Messiah at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kitty Hawk. Conducted by John Buford, who is the First Flight High School choir director, this could be a real treat.

We’ll research our Santa Claus visitation schedule for our next blog. Right now, though here are a some upcoming events to get things going.
