An Outer Banks Summer has begun! Or at least summertime weather. It has been hot, although the heat broke today and we’re getting the first real rain we’ve had in a couple of weeks.
It has been a great week, of course, for all of our visitors who have been flocking to our beaches. This early in the season it’s mostly families with preschool children.
The ocean has been pretty calm. Surfers may be disappointed but there is something magical about watching a father or another, holding their child’s hand as they wade into the surf together for the first time.
Upcoming Family Summer Activities
There’s a lot of great family activities coming up these months during the Outer Banks Summer.
One of our favorites will be happening in two weeks.
The 4th Annual Soundside Funfair at the Soundside Event Site in Nags Head, will be happening June 13-16.
In many ways, the Funfair is a throwback to an old time traveling carnival. There are rides, lots of lights, cotton candy, funnel cakes, contests of skill and strength.
It is a guaranteed great time and the best part is that it benefit for Children and Youth Partnership of Dare County so it’s going to a good cause.
More Indications of an Outer Banks Summer
Tonight was the first performance of The Lost Colony, although there is a very good chance it was rained out. However, the weather is looking excellent to the next three or four days, so they’ll certainly have a chance to get everyone in who may have missed it.
It’s always exciting when the Outer Banks Summer comes along and this year is no exception.
