They just wrapped up the WRV Outer Banks Surf Competition this weekend Jennette’s Pier. Great conditions, especially Thursday and Friday courtesy of Hurricane Cristobal as it made it way to Iceland.

Micheal Dunphy took home top prize this year. That’s back to back first place finishes for the Virignia Beach native who just took top honors in his home town’s Vans ECSC a week ago.

Next up at the Pier is the ESA (Eastern Surf Association) competition September 14-20. Although the ESAs are an amateur competition, this is the big one for the area with competitors coming to the Outer Banks from Florida to Maine.

A heads up about some more events on the Outer Banks horizon. The 29th Annual Outer Banks Stunt Kite Competition is September 27-28. Sponsored by Kitty Hawk Kites it’s worth checking out. The way experienced flyers can make their kites dance across the sky has to be seen to be believed.

We mentioned it in an earlier blog, but it warrants a reminder. The Outer Banks Bluegrass Festival with headliner Ricky Scaggs is September 25-28 at Roanoke Island Festival Park

Don’t forget-Wine and Swine this Thursday at the Whalehead Club in Corolla.
