At long last Village Table and Tavern in Duck is open. Brought to the Outer Banks by the same people who opened Trio Wine Beer & Cheese in Kitty Hawk seven years ago, this newest venture is a real step up.

Located at Nor’Banks Sailing center, it seems as though construction on the site has taken forever.

First of all—Nor’Banks is still very much open. In fact, part of the appeal to the location, according to the Trio folks, is having a builtin customer base for their newest venture.

But this latest venture is way more than a sailing center with a restaurant attached. The menu is targeting an in between customer—very well prepared food in a casual setting that won’t break the bank.

That is the big difference between Trio and Village Table—this is a full service restaurant and bar. Trio, by comparison, has moved toward full meals, but they are still, and will probably remain, mostly a wine and beer bar.

The bar is another difference, though. It’s full service, with some very nice specialty liquors and their own twist on seasonal cocktails.

There are some of the touches that would be expected from a management team that got its start in wine and beer. The wine menu is excellent, especially the wine by the glass. And the beers on tap are some of the most interesting and unique the world has to offer.

Having had a chance to visit, we can also attest to the quality of the sunsets—spectacular comes immediately to mind.

The restaurant is now open for lunch and dinner. Plans call for it to be open year round, although in the middle of the winter it may not be open seven days a week.
