Thirty-three years of ArtRageous, the kids’ art festival that the Dare County Arts Council sponsors every year. That’s quite an accomplishment, but the annual celebration of kids and the arts went off without a hitch today at Dowdy Park in Nags Head.

Glenn Eure and a bunch of his art friends created the first one back in 1987 at Glenn Eure’s Ghost Fleet Gallery. It was really a way for local artists to connect with the Outer Banks community. It was so successful that they just kept doing and then the DCAC took over, and, except for two years off for COVID, it happens every year.

What it ArtRageous is, is a wonderful, marvelous celebration of all things creative with an amazing emphasis on kids and the arts.

The Mustang Outreach Program was on hand with the young musician cranking out some great music. There were young artists everywhere, selling their wares to the public. Quite a number of local groups were also on hand to lend a hand, creating wonderful ways for kids to express themselves. Bag art, jewelry, painting and more.

And, of course, face painting.

One of the things that makes ArtRageous so wonderful is the festival atmosphere that goes with it. The local artists who come out with their booths and creativity and make the day truly artistic.

There is also a wide range of music. The Mosaic Steel Drum Teen Orchestra made the trip from Norfolk to be on hand. Great sound too, with the kids playing only steel drums.

The weather really cooperated today as well. The forecast called for a low pressure cell to move offshore as the day went on, bringing with it wind and a lot of rain. The weather gods seemed to smile on the event with the low waiting until early evening to move through. Of course, it looks as though it’s going to stall offshore for a few days, so we have three or four days coming up that will be great shopping weather.

The Outer Banks is such a wonderfully family oriented place to live, work or visit. Stop by for a week or two in a Brindley Beach Vacations home, and see why family-friendly is what the Outer Banks is all about.
