Memorial Day is just around the corner, and in some ways that is the start of the Outer Banks peak season. But for an even better way to think about when things really kick off, there’s Dare Days in Manteo, this year Friday through Sunday, June3-5.

The celebration has been around for a number of years, but it seems as though this year the town of Manteo is really kicking things up a notch.

Some of that is because they can take advantage of the newly opened College of the Albemarle campus. The new building and campus is spectacular and has lots of room to spread out to enjoy live music and sample some food from local food trucks.

The festivities begin at 6:00, and what’s really nice the new campus is just a short walk—10 minutes—from the waterfront where First Friday will be happening.

Saturday may be the big day, though. Things kick off at 10:00 a.m. at Roanoke Island Festival Park.

In past years, everything happened along the waterfront, but because there are a number of construction projects happening in Manteo, the feeling was it would be better to mover things to RIFP. And that’s great. There's a beautiful lawn and stage there. Lots and lots of room to spread out. Everything that is needed for all the games, contests, music and fun of the day.

New this year, Dare Days rolls into Sunday with a gospel concerts t the Pea Island Cookhouse Museum from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.  The museum is small, but has a wonderful lawn around it, so bring a blanket or lawn chair. It’s a free concert;  622 Sir Walter Raleigh Street.

There is always something happening on the Outer Banks. Plan your visit and discover the Outer Banks and it really is when you stay in a Brindley Beach Vacations home.
