The Outer Banks Dare Devils baseball team is coming back to the Outer Banks. They never actually left, it’s just that with COVID and the financial strain it there’s a been a couple of years off.

But they’re coming back this year with an opening date of June 1 when they’ll be taking on the Edenton Steamers. The schedule runs through July and it’s very full.

The Dare Devils are collegiate baseball players who are taking the summer to hone their skills and in some cases get noticed by a major league team. The level of completion and play is very good. Look for some pitchers who can bring some serious heat. There’s always been some excellent hitters in the Dare Devil’s lineup, but each year is different.

A couple of important changes are happening this year.

Most importantly the games will be played at the Manteo High School. In the past the games were at the First Flight High School field. That might help the hitters. The FFHS field had a deep outfield. Not too many balls left the stadium.

There is also new ownership and a brand new manager and coaches. We’ll have to see if that gets a better team on the field.

Dare Devil games are very family friendly. Because they play at a school facility, alcohol is not permitted, so it soda, hot dogs, hamburgers and ice cream sandwiches for the family.

Prices have to yet been posted, but in the past a family of four could go to a game, have something to eat and spend maybe $60.

The players stay with host families while on the Outer Banks. The players who have been here in the past have all spoken about what a great experience it is to be accepted as part of a family. Since most of the athletes are under 21, they’re still young enough to want the security of a family rooting for them.

Put the date on a calendar and get to  Coy Tillett Sr. Memorial Field at Manteo High School on June 1. Can’t make that one? There’s 29 more to go.

Lot’s of fun things are always happening on the Outer Banks. From Corolla to , Brindley Beach Vacations has it covered.
