It was such a mild November day today that it seemed more like late spring or early autumn than almost Thanksgiving. this being the first Friday of November is seemed like the perfect time to visit downtown Manteo and take advantage of the monthly First Friday.

This being a little later in the season, not everything was open as it would have been in the summer. Still, it was a good time downtown and it looked a lot like a number of people had come out to enjoy a warm and mild November evening.

On the steps of the old Dare County Courthouse, now the home of Dare Arts, the Brothers Carolina were playing some great country tunes and had a good sized gathering of folks in front of them.

Over at NouVines Bill Rea was on guitar with Doug Dino sitting in with him on ukulele. They were sounding great.

For a jazz feel, Joe Mapp was at the 1587 Lounge.

It made for a great evening of music for anyone who wanted to just wander around and check out some sounds.

But there was more.

First Friday is when Dare Arts introduces their featured artists of the month and for November Kathy Cawthon’s Out On A Whim: Myth, Magic & Mischief was just wonderful. Whimsical, cheerful and very well executed, the paintings featured sea creatures and sea life in wonderfully imagined ways.

The next First Friday is when Santa comes to town. The first Friday of December is the annual Manteo Tree Lighting, which is an absolutely magical celebration of small town life.

It’s an evening filled with local high school choirs singing, and some younger choirs, local dance schools performing and much more. And that doesn’t include the local church that’s always at the celebration handing out hot chocolate and Brunswick stew.

It is truly and evening to be treasured.

Any time of the year is a great time to visit the Outer Banks. Be sure to check us out in the winter as well as all the other seasons while staying in a Brindley Beach Vacationshttps://www.brindleybeach.com/ home.
