And that’s a wrap. The Outer Banks summer of 2022 is now officially behind us. Ok, the first day of fall isn’t until September 22, but for purposes of when most of our visitors are here, the summer season is now in the past.

Of course our shoulder seasons have gotten better and better and become very popular, especially up until the second weekend in October. But there’s no doubt that things will slow down quite a bit now.

It’s been quite the summer. Was it as busy as it has been for the past few years? We don’t know yet, and official numbers won’t be available for at least another month.

But the quick answer is there sure were a lot of people here. Our beaches were packed, at times it could be difficult to find a seat in a restaurant, stores were full, roads filled with traffic. All the signs are there that this was one heck of a good season.

The weather certainly cooperated this year. In July there was a spell of heavy rains, but for the most part, when it did rain, the precipitation cooperated by waiting for the night to fall.

One thing we can say with absolute certainty—this has been the summer of music. As far as we can recall, there have never been so many national touring bands playing the Outer Banks.

To a large extent that’s thanks to Vusic OBX, the local music producers that brought in 12 bands this year—almost all of them playing at Roanoke Island Festival Park. But the Tap Shack in Duck did their part as well, bringing Stanley Jordan to the Outer Banks in July. The Tap Shack also managed to get Kellen Williams for two shows over the course of  the summer.

So it’s been a good year. A very good year. And now we’ll see what the fall has in store. More music, we know that with the Duck Jazz Festival back on tap for October 8-9 followed by the Outer Banks Bluegrass Festival October 20-22.

Still a lot happening on the Outer Banks. Be sure to plan your stay in a Brindley Beach Vacations home.
