If the Memorial Day weather is any kind of predictor of what we can expect on the Outer Banks this summer, the forecast is for spectacular. Today and tomorrow (Memorial Day) look to be about as close to perfect day as could be. Temperatures in the law 80s, the ocean cool but not quite cold, bright sunshine, a little bit of wave action, but not too much.

That’s pretty close to perfection.

And our visitors took note of that. Even though Memorial Day is the somewhat semi-official beginning of the summer season, things don’t really pick up for about another two weeks. But looking at the beach today, it looked a lot like a busy summer day.

What seemed to make it seem almost magical was how many activities were going on at the same time. There were some sailboats about a half mile offshore. On the beach there were all sorts of games happening.

Parents holding a toddler’s hand waded into the surf. There was a sandbar just off the beach and the little bit older kids were gathered there with there body boards and laughter.

A couple of long boarders had just enough wave to catch a ride. And, of course, the beach was filled with folks just enjoying the day.

It truly felt like summer was here, even if the first official day of summer is still three weeks off.

It’s important to remember though that Memorial Day is much more than a point in time to say the summer season has begun. This is a day and perhaps to take a moment to recall the hundred of thousands who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation and homes so that something as simple as a day on the beach can be a part of our lives.

The Outer Banks is a beautiful place to live or visit. See what Brindley Beach Vacations has to offer of that next visit or when thinking of calling the Outer Bank home.
